An American filmmaker arrives in the Argentinean pampas to film Matadero: a founding narrative of class struggle where a group of laborers slaughter their bosses like cattle. It is 1974, the violent persecution of the left has just begun in Argentina, and the young actors in the film are on the verge of taking a leap into full time clandestine militancy.

Santiago Fillol (1977, Córdoba, Argentina), is a film director, screenwriter, and producer with a Ph.D. in Audiovisual Communication from Pompeu Fabra University, Barcelona, where he is currently a professor. Fillol’s directorial and screenwriting debut came with Ich bin Enric Marco (2009), which was present at the SSIFF and Locarno. Sharing his career as a screenwriter with Óliver Laxe, Fillol created two features of his filmography: Mimosas (2016) and O que arde (2019), winner of the Gaudí Award for Best European Film and the Best Screenplay Award at the Mar de Plata International Film Festival. Matadero is his second feature film.
