For the first time in Spain, Novos Cinemas devotes a solo section to Belgian filmmaker Bas Devos

Novos Cinemas International Film Festival of Pontevedra, which will take place from 10-15 December, has today revealed the identity of the filmmaker to whom they will be paying tribute in their solo section this year: Belgian director Bas Devos, who will visit the city to participate in the festival, present his films, and discuss with the audience. The program that Novos Cinemas dedicates to Bas Devos will dive into his complete works as a filmmaker, and includes the screening of three feature films: Ghost Tropic –in its Spanish premiere–, Hellhole, and Violet, which will be on show in Galicia for the first time.

Bas Devos was born in Zoersel, Belgium, in 1983. After directing four short films, he released his first feature Violet in 2014. The film was featured in the Berlinale’s Generation section, where it was recognized with the Grand Prix of the Generation 14plus International Jury for Best Film. His second feature Hellhole (2019), which was premiered as part of Berlinale Panorama, earned him the Best Director Award in Hong Kong. Ghost Tropic (2019), starring Saadia Bentaïeb, is his third feature.
