NOVOS CINEMAS. PONTEVEDRA INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL will be held from 11–16December 2018 in the city of Pontevedra (Galicia, Spain). With an emphasis on auteur cinema, NOVOS CINEMAS aims to discover emergent filmmakers and draw attention to them beyond national borders.
WHO CAN ENTER – FILM SUBMISSION AND DEADLINE
NOVOS CINEMAS is an International Film Festival open to emergent filmmakers from all over the world.The festival will have two competitive sections, both of international scope: Official Section and Latexos/Heartbeats (aimed to give visibility to more fragile and intimate productions).
To be eligible, entrants must submit a full-length film (not less than 60 minutes long). The submitted film must be the first or second film directed by the entrant or by the filmmaker the entrant represents.
Eligible entries include feature films completed, or whose first public exhibition take place after 1 January 2017 that have not been commercially released in Spanish cinemas or broadcast on Spanish TV channels (private or public) before entering this competition.
The admission period will be extended from April 30 to July 31, 2018.
HOW TO ENTER
1. All films submitted will be considered for any program designed by the festival team.
2. The inscription is for free and will be made only through our web page where a completed ENTRY FORM must be sent with its corresponding private link and password.
3. Films in languages other than Galician or Spanish must be submitted with subtitles in Spanish or English.
4. Selected entrants will be notified by e-mail.
THE PRIZES – THE JURIES
Four prizes will be awarded:
1. An International Jury will give away the NOVOS CINEMAS Award to the best feature film on the Official Section with a cash prize of € 2,000, for the company or legal representative who registered the film at the event. The International Jury might give up to two Special Mentions (without cash prize).
2. A young jury, comprising a number of university students (UVIGO) designated by NOVOS CINEMAS, will choose the winner of the XURADO NOVO Award of the Official Section, with an economic endowment of € 500, in the form of a Grant for the filmmaker of the winning film.
3. A jury composed of film critics will award the LATEXOS Award. This prize, conceived with to the collaboration of the NUMAX Cooperative, involves the comercial exhibition of the award-winning feature film in NUMAX (Santiago de Compostela).
4. The audience will be invited to participate and decide the winner of the AUDIENCE AWARD (intended to promote the distribution of the winning film). A weighted average of assistants and votes will be calculated to determine the result.
All decisions reached by the judges will be final and may not be contested.
SUBMISSION OF THE SELECTED FILMS FOR DISPLAY
Entrants whose films have been selected must know that:
1. All costs associated with the shipping of the film copies for their display at the Festival will be shared between the festival and the entrants. NOVOS CINEMAS will be in charge of the shipping costs for the arrival of the film to the festival. Please note that the submitted content’s owner (or his/her legal representative) is responsible for all costs related to the return of their entry.
2. Accepted formats are: DCP or Digital File (MP4 or MOV, 1080p o 720p). Depending on the quality and specific features of the submitted works, NOVOS CINEMAS might as well accept analogic formats (35 mm, 16 mm), domestic formats (Blu-ray) or any other format they might consider pertinent.
3. If the selected film’s original language is not English, subtitles in English must be submitted.
4. In order to properly promote the Festival and the selected works, NOVOS CINEMAS will ask the contestants to submit additional material that will be included in the Festival’s catalogue and used for publicity purposes.By submitting an entry to NOVOS CINEMAS, the applicant (or the legal representative of the film) gives to NOVOS CINEMAS and to the entities/media that NOVOS CINEMAS might consider pertinent his/her permission to use and display the submitted content for purposes connected with the Festival.
5. All materials, such as copies of the film, the film poster or posters and any documents that the owners of the submitted content and/or their representatives might consider relevant must be submitted before 15 November 2018.
6.In case of awarded films, NOVOS CINEMAS reserves the right to make new screenings (up to maximum of 2),only with promotional purposes and always with prior notice to their legal representatives.
ACCEPTANCE OF THE TERMS & CONDITIONS – TRANSFER OF RIGHTS
By submitting an entry to NOVOS CINEMAS International Film Festival, an entrant is indicating his/her agreement to be bound by these terms and conditions. Entry into the competition will be deemed as acceptance of these terms and conditions. By entering this competition, entrants and/or their legal representatives are authorizing NOVOS CINEMAS to publicly display the submitted film.
Once a selected entrant has accepted to participate in NOVOS CINEMAS, selected films shall not be withdrawn from the Festival before or during the event.
NOVOS CINEMAS reserves the right at any time and from time to time to modify or discontinue, temporarily or permanently, this competition with or without prior noticedue to reasons outside their control.
